Web Demo on NGDS and NIAB, Geothermal Technologies Office, DOE (Jan. 27)
Via DOE ~ The DOE’s Geothermal Technologies Office will hold a Web demo on the National Geothermal Data System (NGDS) and How to Adopt NGDS Node-in-a-Box (NIAB) for Energy Efficiency, Renewable Energy, and Other Data Provision Applications on January 27, 2014, 10:30am to 12 noon EST. Earlier this year the Executive Office of the President issued an initiative now referred to as the Open Data Policy. Highlights include the need for federally managed information to be publicly usable, discoverable, and accessible. The NGDS provides continuously updated free and open access to geothermal information and tools.

The NGDS Node-in-a-Box (NIAB) is based on the US Geosciences Information Network (http://usgin.org/). During this training session you will learn how to install and implement the NIAB software. By mastering batch import and upload of shared datasets, registration of data sources, and the NGDS supported formats, you will learn how to load and expose data as a node on the NGDS network. Discuss your “node” specific needs and understand how to use the NGDS and the NIAB.

Event Time: 10:30 – 12:00 PM EST. NGDS Demo: 10:30 – 11:15 AM EST. NIAB Software Utilization: 11:15 – 12:00 PM EST. Follow link to join the meeting: https://www1.gotomeeting.com/join/949069777. Use your microphone and speakers (VoIP) – a headset is recommended. Or, call in using your telephone. Dial +1 (312) 878-3081. Access Code: 949-069-777. Audio PIN: Shown after joining the meeting. Meeting ID: 949-069-777. To preview a beta version of the Node-in-a-Box software: node.usgin.org/. Contact: Arlene.Anderson@ee.doe.gov

REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS, Saipan Geothermal Resource Assessment (Preregister by Feb. 10)
Via Commonwealth Utilities Corp. CUC RFP 14-001 ~ The Commonwealth Utilities Corporation (CUC) is soliciting sealed proposals from qualified firms to collect and evaluate scientific data to better determine the potential for development of geothermal energy on Saipan. Available information suggests that the geothermal gradient beneath Saipan may be sufficiently steep to develop geothermal energy to generate electricity.

The technical complexity of the Project and the need to collect and evaluate extensive data will require the successful Proposer to provide the expertise from various professional disciplines, conduct exploratory drilling, and provide equipment and materials necessary to complete the Scope of Work.

The RFP package may be obtained from the CUC Procurement and Supply Office, 3rd Floor, Room No. 3, Joeten Dandan Commercial Building, Saipan, between 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, except on government observed holidays upon completion of registration and presentation of a receipt evidencing a non-refundable payment to the CUC Treasury Section, by cash, check or credit card in the amount of $200.00 for one RFP package set. Prospective Proposers for this RFP must pre-register with the CUC Procurement & Supply Division by February 10, 2014 to be considered.

A pre-proposal Conference will be held on January 27, 2014 at 10:00 AM (ChST), at the CUC Training Room, 3rd Floor, Joeten Dandan Commercial Building, Dandan, Saipan, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.

CALL FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST, SUSWA PHASE I, 300 MW GEOTHERMAL DEVELOPMENT (due Feb. 20)
Via Geothermal Development Company ~ (TENDER REF: GDC/HQS/EOI/044/2013:2014) GDC, a 100% state-owned corporation, tasked with accelerating the development of geothermal energy in Kenya, is undertaking geothermal development at Suswa Prospect. Detailed surface studies comprising of geology, geophysics, surface heat measurement, baseline environmental and social economic assessment estimates the field potential to be about 750 MW. The current project aims to realize about 300 MW between year 2016 and 2018.

Project Development Plan
The estimated 300 MW Suswa Phase I Geothermal Project including the power plants construction is projected to be completed between 2016 and 2018. GDC jointly with the selected investors will develop the steam by drilling exploration, appraisal and production wells. The competitively selected investors will thereafter construct the power plants and generate power with the fuel mined from this prospect. A total of 120 wells will be drilled for this Phase.

Project Status
The detailed surface study has been completed. The studies leading to ESIA license from National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) relating to the resource development is in progress. Infrastructural development will start from July,
2014/15.

Objective of EoI
GDC intends to engage investors/partners who will get the opportunity to jointly together with GDC develop the steam field and individually install the first three power plants each at least 100 MW at its Suswa Prospect.

Interested investors may request in writing for further information and clarifications on this matter at the following address during office hours: Manager, Supply Chain; Geothermal Development Company Limited, P.O. Box 100746 – 00101; NAIROBI, KENYA. E-mail: asaat@gdc.co.ke and cc: pngugi@gdc.co.ke
