Australia: ARENA Denies Funding for Geelong Geothermal
Greenearth Energy has said the future of Geelong geothermal project is in doubt, having been denied funding by the federal Australian Renewable Energy Agency. Greenearth had submitted an expression of interest through the Emerging Renewables Program. The company previously secured Victorian State government funding for up to $25 million, with $5m for stage 1 and $20m for stage 2 of the project, which is planned for a geothermal energy generation capacity of 12 MW. Australia: Geothermal Heating/Cooling Project Given $1.3 M Grant
The Bethanie Group has three aged care and retirement living service facilities in Western Australian that will be getting geothermal heating and cooling systems. A grant of $1.3 million in funding is provided by the Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism’s Community Energy Efficiency Program (CEEP) Round Two. Subthermal Solutions will design and build the project, which will then save Bethanie Group an estimated $90,000 in electricity costs and 390,000 kg of greenhouse gas emissions per year. Indonesia: Raya Group Sees Geothermal Funding; Nation’s Goals Require 300-500 MW Geothermal Growth Annually
Raya Group and Space Con Pty Ltd have signed an agreement on financing for Raya’s three geothermal projects in Indonesia. Raya will maintain a 20% free carry interest, as well as a cash payment of $US1 million when development commences. Proactiveinvestors.com.au

New Zealand: Geothermal Research Project Awarded NZ$4.4 Million

The Philippines: Northern Negros Relocation to be Completed by Third Quarter Next Year
Energy Development Corp (EDC) of the Philippines has said it will complete the relocation of the Northern Negros geothermal plant from Barangay by the third quarter of next year. Electro-mechanical equipment will be relocated to the Palinpinon geothermal power complex, Nasulo site in Negros Oriental. Sumitomo Corp of Japan was contracted for the relocation. The Philippines: Thirty-one Parties to Bid for Leyte Geothermal Power
The Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corporation (PSALM)’s Unified Leyte geothermal privatization campaign has been cropping up in local news and has garnered significant responses from 40 different parties interested in owning geothermal power from the 640-MW plant. Of the 40 responses, 31 were accepted at this week’s pre-bid conference. The auction will be offered in two packages — the first will be offered in strips of power ranging from 1 MW to 40 MW max; and a second package of 240 MW will be offered in one bulk.
