GRMF will hold a Round 2 pre-application information workshop for project developers and project financiers considering financial support for geothermal projects in Eastern Africa. The Geothermal Development Company has invited a tender for supply of soap dosing pumps for Kenya. DOE has announced its Clean Energy Manufacturing Western Regional Summit.

Pre-Application Workshop, Geothermal Risk Mitigation Facility, Ethiopia (October 21)
The Geothermal Risk Mitigation Facility (GRMF) has announced a Round 2 pre-application information workshop for project developers and project financiers considering financial support for geothermal projects in Eastern Africa. The workshop will be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on 21st October 2012 (Start: 9:00 a.m.) at the African Union compound. 50 million Euro (approx. 62 million USD) has been made available for cost share grants for surface studies and drilling of reservoir confirmation wells. GRMF was established by the African Union Commission (AUC), on the one side, and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the EU-Africa Infrastructure Trust Fund via KfW Entwicklungsbank (KfW), on the other side, to help catalyze geothermal developments in Eastern Africa. Based on the great interest in the first application round, the GRMF programme, which originally targeted 5 countries, has now been extended to include the following 11 countries: Burundi, Comoros, Djibouti, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia.

Tender for Supply of Soap Dosing Pumps, Geothermal Development Company, Kenya (due September 30)
The Geothermal Development Company Ltd (GDC) has invited “Tender for Supply of Soap Dosing Pumps” with Tender No. GDC/HQS/OT/021/2013-2014. This tender has a closing date of September 30, 2013 at 2.00pm. The document can be viewed and downloaded from the website http://www.gdc.co.ke free of charge. The completed tenders in plain sealed envelopes clearly marked with Tender No. and Tender reference name; shall be addressed to: The Managing Director & CEO, Geothermal Development Company, P.O Box 100746-00101, NAIROBI, KENYA, and deposited in the tender box at the GDC Riverside Office 2nd Floor located along Riverside Drive, on or before September 30. Clean Energy Manufacturing Western Regional Summit, DOE, San Francisco (October 16)
Via the U.S. Department of Energy — DOE’s Clean Energy Manufacturing Western Regional Summit is in San Francisco, California on October 16, 2013. The Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy (EERE) recently launched the Clean Energy Manufacturing Initiative (CEMI) to strengthen U.S. production of clean energy products and boost U.S. manufacturing competitiveness through major improvements in industrial energy productivity.  As part of this Initiative, EERE is organizing three regional summits around the country this year.

The Western Summit is the second in this series and will bring together up to 250 manufacturing leaders and experts from across the West Coast to:
•Showcase regional clean energy innovation and manufacturing activities, opportunities, and success stories
•Highlight federal, state, and local resources for clean energy manufacturers, and for clean energy innovators to scale innovation to manufacturing
•Seek input on how the Clean Energy Manufacturing Initiative can strengthen regional and national manufacturing competitiveness
•Foster networking and partnerships between innovators, manufacturers, and federal and regional resources

A few highlights include keynotes from California Governor Jerry Brown (invited) and U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein [D-CA] (invited).
