There are several new announcements on the Geothermal Community Notice Board this week. Artists: GEA needs a new logo. KenGen needs a drilling stimulator in Kenya. DOD is preparing for geophysical tests in the Western U.S. A Denmark site needs a geothermal drilling rig. Guatemala is preparing a bid for 250 MW, specifically for geothermal.

October 24: We just received a procurement notice from Kenya?s Geothermal Development Company (GDC) for the supply of a fixed type drilling simulator. Seeking Sources for Geophysical Test Hole Drilling, Defense (DOD), Western US (respond by Nov. 4)
Via Fbo.gov ~ Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southwest is seeking qualified below ground surface (bgs) drilling companies to provide, under contract, all management, labor, incidental engineering, travel, transportation, equipment, material, and supervision necessary to perform geophysical test hole drilling at various Department of Defense (DoD) sites in the western United States to further determine/assess each installation’s geothermal resource potential. The Contractor shall perform and execute all aspects of drilling, logging support, and completing the test holes to government performance requirements. The test holes could be designed to be drilled to depth of up to 8,000 feet bgs (approximately). The purpose of the geophysical test hole drilling includes seeking elevated subsurface temperatures, gathering geophysical down-hole data, chip samples, and possibly recovering fluid samples, so as to further delineate the area’s geothermal resource potential.

Rig Tender, Geothermal Project in Denmark (due Nov. 7)
Tender 2013/S 195-337288. A land drilling rig for geothermal wells is sought for a work site in Denmark. The notice involves a public contract for up to 4 wells. The number of wells depends on the outcome of flow tests. The work is expected to begin April/May 2014. Ted.europa.eu

Ministry Preparing Invitation to Bid on 250 MW Geothermal, Guatemala
Guatemala’s energy and mining ministry (MEM) is preparing a 250-MW geothermal round. “It would be the first time you make an invitation for that kind of technology,” Minister Erick Archer was quoted in press. S21.com.gt Geothermal also qualifies for an earlier call for proposals in the Generation Expansion Plan (PEG 03-2013) that was issued in September for 250 MW of renewable energy.
