The Africa Development Bank has announced a $1.2 billion dollar loan which is expected to fully fund a 1,000-km line between Kenya and Ethiopia. The line is planned for 2,000 MW of transfer capacity and would connect geothermal energy fields of the Rift Valley and other resources.

As Kenya strives to remain a regional leader in geothermal its state-owned power producer KenGen is looking at consultancy services opportunities in Sudan, Rwanda, and Tanzania.

The Overseas Private Investment Corp. says that its $20 million initial investment will lead to $1 billion in investment in Africa for clean energy projects, including geothermal.
