Call for Proposals, PEER Science Grants, USAID and NSF (due Jan. 13)
Via The Office of Science and Technology, PEER Science–Partnerships for Enhanced Engagement in Research (PEER) Science is a competitive grants program that invites scientists in developing countries to apply for funds to support research and capacity-building activities that are conducted in partnership with National Sciences Foundation (NSF)-funded collaborators. USAID and NSF are working together to support the third cycle of PEER Science grants. They are accepting proposals from applicants from 87 USAID eligible countries and from USAID selected missions and offices that have allocated resources to foster science and development goals: Indonesia, Biodiversity Conservation in the Philippines, Water for Asia and the Middle East and North Africa, Maldives Climate Change Adaptation, Biodiversity Conservation in Brazil, Forestry and Climate Change in India, and Power Africa. DOE Announces New $8 Billion Fossil Energy Loan
The DOE Loan Programs Office’s Web site notes that a new solicitation for $8 billion for energy loans “will provide loan guarantees to innovative, advanced fossil energy projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions,” for example, projects that provide modifications to fossil fuel-fired plants. The solicitation is part of President Obama’s Climate Action Plan. While the solicitation isn’t for geothermal power, there could be areas of interest to the sector.
