United Kingdom: Government Awards Geothermal Grant to Cheshire East

In the UK, the Department for Energy & Climate Change has awarded Cheshire East a £200,000 grant to to explore deep geothermal development feasibility. Cllr Michael Jones, council leader, was quoted in press: “This council is committed to tackling energy poverty as well as reducing our carbon emissions, so this may be the right solution for the borough.” He said plans for drilling could go up to 5 km deep and target water at temperatures of 100C.
